Dye Sublimation
Sublimation is a process of printing, making use of a special ink known as a sublimation ink.
This is delivered in liquid form however the liquid in essence is only a carrier for the ink. The ink is printed onto a Sublimation paper
via a 6 colour or 4 colour ink jet printer. The carrier evaporates allowing the ink particles to stay behind on the paper and will then be
transferred via the use of heat into the surface of a sub-straight that is either polyester or polyester coated. The process of sublimation
occurs at approximately 180°c. The printers used are generally Epson printers which are converted to be able to use the Special ink.
|
After the heat cycle the image will have been transferred into the
surface of the sub-straight. If you feel the surface with your finger you will notice there is no edge. There are a range of products that have
been coated for the sublimation process. Some of the more popular items include Mugs, Polyester T shirts, Coasters, Mouse Pads and Puzzles.
It is very important to note that since the printer was not designed for the use of these particular inks, the printer will not last as long
as it would normally. Please consider your printer to be a consumable rather than an asset, and it will need to be replaced on a 12 to 18
monthly bases. They may last longer depending on usage and care.
In order to lengthen the life of the printer you MUST USE THE PRINTER EVERY SINGLE DAY. This is very important because, if this is not done
you will have problems such as blocking of the jets and the printer requiring a service program to be reset.
If your printer blocks there is a chance it may not be able to be repaired. Blocking will result in significant ink wastage.
If the printer does block, then you need to follow the un-clogging instructions given to you when you purchased the printer .
If these do not work, please call us in order to discuss the problem as a service call may be required. If after three tries you are
not able to unblock the printer please call us to discuss the problem.
The printer should be left on or should only be turned off on a weekly basis. This will lengthen the life of your printer. The switching
off of your printer should also be avoided.
Prior to the printer installation either by a Sytech technician or by yourself following the detailed instructions for the installation,
you need to choose a position for the printer that will not be changed. Once a printer is converted they do not travel very well, this can
result in problems with the kit and the jets going out of line. This may result in a new kit being required.

The kit needs to be kept parallel to the printer in order for the ink to be pumped at the correct pressure. If the kit is too high you
may get blotches while the printing process is taking place. The ink levels need to be maintained because if they get too low, air may
get into the system or the pressure will not be correct in order to print. If the equipment is not maintained correctly it will give
you no end to trouble.
Sublimation printing when done properly will deliver a very high quality product. |
